Visitacion Valley is a community in San Francisco recognized for its poverty and violence. With five public housing developments, one if which is considered the most violent in San Francisco, resources are limited and hope is just a word. Many children come from broken homes and go to bed with the sound of gunfire ringing in their ears.
In this underserved community shines a ray of hope called Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.). With 20 years of award-winning programming, R.O.C.K. is the largest youth-serving organization in Visitacion Valley. R.O.C.K.’s programs, which span the entire year, serve over 500 children ages 6-17. R.O.C.K. provides sports/fitness, academic support, learning enrichment, community service, outdoor adventures, leadership training and job opportunities to a community lacking in resources.
